Job Overview

Purpose:

The Nutritional Assistance Coordinator plays a vital role within the Welcome Center, focusing on the immediate provision of food assistance services. This position involves direct interaction with clients and collaboration with food pantry volunteers. The coordinator will gather and organize essential information to ensure that all clients utilizing food assistance services have access to a comprehensive range of social services offered by Catholic Charities of Kansas City-St. Joseph. Additionally, the coordinator will engage in community outreach to raise awareness of the food pantry, fostering partnerships with local food pantries and community organizations. This is a part-time role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct intake assessments for each client seeking food assistance.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the food pantry, office space, and storage areas.
  • Adhere to local, state, and federal food safety regulations.
  • Monitor food inventory levels as directed by the Program Manager.
  • Ensure all clients receive appropriate services.
  • Collaborate closely with agency staff, program managers, and directors to deliver quality services.
  • Operate agency vehicles for food pickups from various locations.
  • Supervise volunteers to ensure effective task execution and customer service.
  • Manage client data entry and prepare monthly statistical reports for the Program Manager.
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings, training sessions, and other agency-related activities.
  • Support departmental initiatives and special events, including outreach efforts in the community.
  • Drive the agency vehicle for mobile food distributions and outreach in the surrounding areas.
  • Fulfill additional tasks as assigned by the Welcome Center Program Manager or Director.
  • Work with Welcome Center staff to provide information on additional services, financial assistance, and community resources.
  • Assist clients with SNAP applications and provide relevant information.
  • Inform clients about alternative social services related to food assistance.
  • Attend community meetings to stay informed about local events and services.
  • Travel may be required to support the agency pantry in different locations.
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; an associate or bachelor's degree in human services is preferred.
  • Professional experience in social services or the emergency food sector is advantageous.

  • Willingness to travel throughout the year.

  • Ability to remain stationary at a workstation and utilize a computer.
  • Assist with physical tasks such as moving boxes and packing food items.
  • Collaborate with staff for meetings and outreach initiatives.
  • Capability to drive a van.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and sit for up to four hours while working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in varying climates and in environments with significant noise.
