Job Summary

Dennis Group Springfield is seeking a highly skilled Packaging Systems Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for designing, installing, and commissioning packaging equipment lines for our food and beverage industry clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Engineering
    • Create detailed design concepts and specifications for packaging lines
    • Develop functional designs for packaging equipment, including conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing, and palletizing
    • Work with sanitary design concepts to ensure compliance with industry regulations
    • Interpret mechanical design requirements and customer specifications
    • Review vendor shop drawings and discipline coordination drawings
  • Project Management
    • Develop project schedules and budgets for packaging equipment installations
    • Coordinate with equipment vendors and installation crews to ensure timely and successful project completion
    • Attend and present at client meetings to discuss project progress and requirements
  • Site Work and Commissioning
    • Conduct site surveys to assess existing conditions and identify potential challenges
    • Supervise equipment vendors and installation crews during on-site construction project coordination
    • Lead factory acceptance testing at vendors' shops
  • Departmental Growth and Development
    • Participate in departmental growth initiatives to continually improve packaging engineering best practices
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, packaging, industrial, or manufacturing engineering
  • 4+ years of work experience in a related field, preferably in food and beverage manufacturing, design firms, or professional engineering firms
  • Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Intellectual curiosity and a positive, can-do, team-oriented attitude
  • Strong problem-solving, organizing, and time management skills
  • Experience in project definition, equipment design/layout, process design, equipment design, machine testing procedures, installation, and commissioning of equipment
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times
Travel Requirement
  • Up to 50% travel required to visit project sites and other offices
