Job Overview

Family Restoration Services is in search of a Certified Addiction Counselor to implement and interpret therapeutic practices for a diverse clientele facing substance use and emotional challenges. The counselor will utilize cognitive-behavioral techniques and conduct Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory (SASSI) assessments. This position emphasizes evidence-based practices (EBP) alongside a therapeutic community model to enhance treatment outcomes and elevate the quality of life for clients. This role is an independent contractor position.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist clients in identifying rehabilitation objectives and formulating treatment strategies.
  • Conduct interviews to gather medical histories and relevant information to assess client conditions.
  • Engage with family members to deliver drug education and counseling interventions.
  • Prepare clinical documentation and comprehensive reports.
  • Provide monthly evaluations to track progress and identify areas for continuous improvement.
  • Collect urine samples from clients as necessary.
  • Design and implement programs aimed at prevention.
  • Maintain clinical records and case histories.
  • Offer direct supervision, monitoring, and behavioral interventions.
  • Deliver supportive counseling, motivational training, and encouragement.
  • Communicate feedback to parents, referral sources, and related service providers as needed.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Current and valid State Certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) in Virginia or equivalent certification recognized by the VA Board of Professional Counselors, or a Master's degree in Addiction Counseling.
  • Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field with a minimum of three years of experience as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC); a Master's degree in Addiction Counseling or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience working with youth facing emotional and behavioral challenges.
  • Familiarity with court services and the preparation of assessments for court requirements.
  • Completion of 300 clock hours of training in the following areas:
    • Understanding human behavior dynamics.
    • Recognizing signs and symptoms of substance abuse.
    • Treatment methodologies, group dynamics, and adjunctive recovery support.
    • Continuum of care and case management techniques.
    • Recovery processes and relapse prevention strategies.
    • Ethical considerations in practice.
    • Professional identity in substance abuse service provision.
    • Crisis intervention techniques.
    • Substance abuse treatment planning and research.
Skills and Competencies
  • In-depth knowledge of substance abuse and its physiological and psychological impacts.
  • Proficient in developing and implementing drug education programs.
