Manager of Unix Engineering

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager of Unix Engineering to join our team at NYU Langone Health. As a key member of our IT organization, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of our Unix platform technologies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop a deep understanding of our Unix platform technologies and identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.
  • Lead the development of a comprehensive roadmap for our Unix platforms, ensuring they are scalable, collaborative, and aligned with business needs.
  • Evaluate the impact of emerging technologies on our Unix platforms and develop strategies for adoption and integration.
  • Formulate plans to improve employee satisfaction and productivity through the effective use of Unix platforms.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, improve, automate, or lessen ongoing operational costs through the use of public cloud providers.
  • Define and deliver strategies and solutions for Unix platforms transformation, including vision, roadmap, and governance model.
  • Implement an overarching Unix strategy, framework, and governance model to optimize capital and operating costs and provide new and enhanced customer experiences.
  • Provide leadership in the rapid integration of emerging technologies and innovation, enabling secure access to data anywhere and anytime.
  • Leverage public or private cloud or hybrid services to gain efficiencies and drive the development of a single pane of glass to manage the Unix platform technology.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience with distributed systems technologies, including server, storage, enterprise monitoring tools, and architecture.
  • 5+ years of experience managing multiple projects and initiatives.
  • 5+ years of experience managing industry vendor relationships.
  • 5+ years of experience translating complex technical information into business-oriented language.
  • 5+ years of experience developing architecture review board governance structure.
  • 5+ years of experience with applications and hardware, including AIX, VIO, HACMP, Linux, VMWare, TSM, Solaris, and IBM P-Series.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting IT operating and capital budgets in excess of $1M.
  • 3+ years of experience managing a team of 4+ staff.
