Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Sewer Services Technician to join our team at the City of Buena Park, CA. As a key member of our Public Works department, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repair tasks related to our sewer system, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair tasks on sewer lines, manholes, and other infrastructure
  • Inspect and test sewer lines to identify potential issues and ensure compliance with safety standards
  • Operate heavy equipment, such as hydro-vacuum flushing equipment and snakes, to clear blockages and maintain sewer lines
  • Assist in the installation and repair of sewer mains and laterals
  • Locate and mark sewer lines using maps and plans
  • Inspect sewer lines for leaks, breaks, or blockages
  • Operate hand and power tools, including jackhammers and concrete cutters
  • Search for sewer line locations and prepare basic work records using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Assist with other emergency repairs and maintenance tasks
  • Answer basic questions from customers regarding sewer maintenance procedures
Requirements
  • High School graduation or G.E.D. equivalent
  • 6 months of maintenance experience involving parks, streets, building, facilities, general construction, plumbing, water or sewer service maintenance, repair, and customer service
  • Valid Class C California driver license, acceptable driving record, and evidence of insurance
  • Valid Class B California driver license with Water Tanker endorsement and Medical Certification within one year of appointment
  • California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Collection System Maintenance Grade I certification within one year of appointment
  • Confined Space Entry training and Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Certification upon appointment
Working Conditions

This position requires working in extreme outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, in high or precarious places, and exposure to wet or humid conditions, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock. Occasional work in enclosed and confined spaces may be required.
