Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Superintendent to join our team at Jewett Construction Co. in Portland, Coastal Maine.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of multiple job sites, ensuring compliance with contract requirements, and maintaining a safe working environment for all personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate subcontractors, direct hire craftspeople, and job site operations in accordance with Jewett's Superintendent Manual
  • Assist with project scope of work development and review
  • Establish and maintain project schedules, including start, progress, and completion schedules
  • Responsible for scheduling and leadership of subcontractor weekly coordination meetings
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements, noise and dust control, and utility shutdown procedures
  • Provide daily safety awareness and inspections to ensure the safety and well-being of all personnel
  • Conduct job site quality control checks to ensure construction and materials meet project documents and Owner standards
  • Prepare and submit accurate, detailed, electronic daily reports for the project and post reports in project management software, Procore
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to prepare agendas and hold job progress meetings with subcontractors
  • Responsible for scheduling all project activities in compliance with project schedule timelines
  • Maintain punch list management and project closeout requirements
  • Ensure compliance with Jewett's Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) and all local requirements (OSHA)
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, plus a minimum of 5 years' experience or 10 years' related experience in the construction industry with a commercial or industrial general contractor
  • OSHA 30 Safety Course Certification, Red Cross First Aid, and CPR Certification preferred but not required
  • Proficient with scheduling software, CAE, and CAD applications
  • Ability to interpret and build according to drawings, specifications, and other documents
  • Extensive knowledge of construction means and methods
  • Proficient with MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to read/write and communicate in English
  • Ability to function well in very busy situations
  • Responsible and reliable
  • Positive attitude and work ethic
  • Ability to interact appropriately with a variety of individuals, including coworkers, supervisors, and clients
  • Ability to remember and understand verbal and written instructions
  • Self-starter with a team player attitude, comfortable taking initiative and working in collaboration

  • Authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship
  • Ability to work off-hours, including weekends, as needed and directed by General Superintendent

This is a full-time position that may frequently require long hours and weekend work. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
