The Clinical Psychologist will provide comprehensive psychological care to patients within the hospital and outpatient settings, engaging in research, educational activities, and advocacy as guided by departmental leadership.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Doctorate in Psychology (PsyD) or PhD in Clinical or Developmental Psychology (Mandatory)
Experience Requirements
Completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical psychology (Mandatory).
Minimum of 3 years working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and engaging with diverse families. Experience in a pediatric academic environment is preferred. Evidence of involvement in collaborative research focusing on early childhood is essential. Interest in teaching and supervision is advantageous.
Essential Skills and Knowledge
Proficient understanding of contemporary principles, methodologies, and interventions for psychological service delivery, including assessment and treatment in the relevant specialty. Familiarity with legal and ethical standards governing psychological care is crucial.
Ability to independently assess patient issues and formulate care plans.
Capability to integrate ethical considerations into patient interactions and discuss these with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues.
Experience in supervising and mentoring clinical professionals and/or students in the specialty area.
Commitment to maintaining quality and safety standards.
Demonstrates a dedication to ongoing education and stays informed on advancements in the specialty.
Knowledge of and adherence to legal and ethical standards in psychological service delivery.

Licensed Psychologist in Washington, DC. Fully credentialed psychologist at Children's National Medical Center. Required upon hiring.
Key Responsibilities
Commitment to Exceptional Care
- Deliver psychological services to patients at Children's Hospital and other authorized locations in a professional and timely manner.
- Oversee the medical care team and manage direct patient care for a designated population; enhance continuity of care, customer service, and collaboration with community healthcare providers through timely documentation and communication.
- Provide on-call services as designated by departmental leadership.
- Engage in family-centered care, communicating compassionately and professionally; refer patients to specialists and ancillary services as necessary.
- Utilize the established chain of command and escalation procedures appropriately.
- Respond to inquiries from team members and external providers promptly and respectfully; clearly communicate expectations regarding patient updates and significant clinical changes to trainees, encouraging their questions.
- Engage in advocacy initiatives at CNMC.
- Contribute scholarly efforts to advance public policy aimed at enhancing pediatric health and well-being.
- Educate patients and families on treatment, prevention, and care improvement strategies.
- Participate in health promotion, education, and prevention programs.
- Conduct impactful research in clinical and translational science relevant to the specialty.
- Review manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
- Publish findings in reputable scientific and management journals.
- Apply for grants or contracts to fund research initiatives.
- Participate in research committees and special interest groups.
- Engage in CNMC's medical education programs through collaborative learning activities.
- Participate in hospital/university-wide educational initiatives as appropriate.

- Provide timely feedback to trainees.
- Ensure proper orientation for trainees regarding patient care.
- Effectively supervise and train clinical professionals and students.
- Adhere to established bylaws, policies, and procedures, including continuous quality improvement and safety standards.
- Complete all clinical documentation promptly as required by regulatory bodies and institutional policies.
- Identify and recommend improvements related to patient services.
- Participate in the development and revision of policies affecting medical practice and quality of care.
- Review and prepare protocols for staff use, evaluating patient care according to established criteria.
