Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team at The University of Vermont Medical Center. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients of all ages using venipuncture and capillary collection methods.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect blood specimens from patients using venipuncture and capillary collection methods
  • Work in multiple healthcare settings, including inpatient and outpatient areas
  • Choose the proper tools and techniques for each age group and situation to obtain optimum specimens while minimizing discomfort and hazard for the patient and yourself
  • Act as frontline support in complex technological and clinical environments
  • Provide factual information concerning laboratory tests according to standard procedure
  • Organize work to efficiently obtain specimens at optimum times
  • Maintain professional demeanor when placed in stressful situations
  • Assist in training and orientation of new employees as required
Requirements
  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent
  • Current CPR certification or will be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Current ASCP Phlebotomy Certification or will be obtained within 18 months of hire
  • Ability to perform successful venipunctures is desired
  • Prior experience in a medical setting is preferred
  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced, potentially stressful work environment is helpful
  • Extensive computer skills required
