The Role

As a Senior AI Backend Engineer, you will play a critical role in delivering LLM-powered solutions to our enterprise customers. Your primary responsibilities will include owning the deployment strategy and implementation, maintaining Essential's product and backend infrastructure in customers' environments, and working closely with customers to understand their needs and build tailored solutions.

You will have significant opportunities to advance Essential's product capabilities and contribute to the development of general-purpose solutions for automating product deployment. To succeed in this role, you should possess a strong technical background, excellent communication skills, and a customer-centric approach.

What You'll Be Working On

  • Developing software solutions for enterprise-level customers, guiding them through the adoption and maximization of our platform to address complex business challenges.
  • Collaborating with researchers and engineers to design and implement core infrastructure and systems powered by foundation models for enterprises' workflows.
  • Exploring, iterating, and building novel products that bring model capabilities to life through user-friendly interfaces.
  • Engaging deeply with customers to understand their requirements and iterate quickly to customize our product to their needs.
  • Guiding the development of new kinds of software enabled by LLMs to improve valuable enterprise workflows.
  • Deploying and scaling AI-powered products from the ground up while defining standards and protocols for monitoring, evaluation, security considerations, etc.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience building distributed and scalable backend systems, with a focus on deploying software in other enterprises.
  • Technical leadership and experience in building products from scratch.
  • A technically savvy, business-minded, and customer-focused Solutions Architect with experience partnering cross-functionally with research, engineering, infra teams, and enterprise customers.
  • Experience with high-performance backend systems in frameworks like Rust / Go / Typescript / Python.
  • Experience with database technologies like MySQL / Postgres, Dynamodb, Redis, etc., and big data platforms like BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake, etc.
  • Experience with Restful and Graphql concepts.
  • Built production-grade systems using GCP, AWS, Terraform or Kubernetes, including deployment pipelines, streaming services, security management, etc.
  • The ability to navigate and execute amidst ambiguity to help your team, the customer, and the end-user succeed.

Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $175,000 - $225,000 depending on experience, plus equity, 401(k), health benefits, daily onsite lunches and snacks, and more.
