Job Summary:
St. Luke's University Health Network is seeking a highly skilled Histotechnologist to join our team in Dermatology. As a key member of our laboratory, you will be responsible for preparing slides of human tissue to provide valuable data on disease causes and progression.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
1. Demonstrating compliance with laboratory safety policies, procedures, and standards.
2. Maintaining confidentiality of all materials handled.
3. Demonstrating knowledge and operation of LIS software, computer programs, and equipment.
4. Performing routine preventative maintenance and troubleshooting malfunctions on equipment and instrumentation.
5. Completing, recording, and monitoring quality control and quality assurance documentation.
6. Reviewing and understanding standard operating procedures and completing continued education activities.
7. Assisting with inventory control.
8. Demonstrating knowledge and proficiency in complex histology duties, including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, coverslipping, microscopy, solution preparation, automated and manual routine and special staining techniques, enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and in-situ hybridization techniques.
9. Demonstrating knowledge and proficiency in the identification of cell and tissue structures, microorganisms, pigments, and antibody-antigen interactions.
10. Demonstrating knowledge and proficiency in quality control monitoring of control tissue, reagent lots, and staining procedures.
11. Demonstrating knowledge in laboratory validation processes.
12. Meeting or exceeding departmental productivity standards in embedding and microtomy areas.
13. Training others to perform histology responsibilities when assigned.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
The successful candidate will be required to:
1. Sit for up to 6 hours/day in 3-hour increments.
2. Stand for up to 3 hours/day in 1-hour increments.
3. Walk for up to 2 hours/day in 10-minute increments.
4. Rarely carry objects up to 25 pounds.
5. Hear as it relates to normal conversation.
6. See as it relates to general far/near/color and peripheral vision and depth perception.
Education and Experience:
The successful candidate should possess:
1. An AS or BS degree in a related field.
2. HT or HTL ASCP certification is preferred.
3. Previous experience in anatomic pathology is preferred.
4. Prior Mohs experience is preferred.
