Accountable for the accurate compounding, dispensing, reviewing, and verifying of prescribed medications in compliance with regulatory standards and company protocols.
Facilitate the smooth operation of the pharmacy and collaborate with the pharmacy manager to identify strategies for optimizing financial performance, managing inventory, and enhancing the patient experience.
Key ResponsibilitiesEnhancing Patient Experience
Welcome patients warmly and assist them with inquiries regarding products and services. Address patient concerns promptly and provide information to ensure a satisfactory experience.
Demonstrate and share exemplary customer service practices with all team members to create a unique and pleasant experience, including interpersonal skills that reflect care (e.g., greetings, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service values (e.g., curiosity to identify needs, proactive assistance, championing empathy and inclusivity).
Contribute to improving patient experiences by promoting awareness of healthcare services available through Walgreens (e.g., patient consultations, medication management, drug therapy reviews, and clinical or wellness services such as immunizations and diagnostic testing), thereby transitioning the pharmacy role from transactional to relational.
Participate in community events that reflect the diverse populations we serve as directed by management.
Provide counseling to patients, addressing their inquiries regarding medication usage, side effects, interactions, contraindications, privacy of patient information, generics, and over-the-counter products, while referring to medical providers as necessary to ensure proper medication adherence and health needs are met.
Review, interpret, and accurately dispense prescribed medications as workload permits.
Ensure the pharmacy operates in accordance with all regulations, company policies, and standards.
Assist the pharmacy manager in establishing procedures that enhance the pharmacy's workflow, including role assignments, activity coordination, and soliciting team member input.
Responsible for pharmacy opening and closing procedures as well as shift change responsibilities.
Ensure adherence to all elements of the Good Faith Dispensing policy in conjunction with state and federal controlled substance regulations when processing prescriptions.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of pharmacy-related information technology, including workflow, prescription fulfillment, billing, clinical documentation, training, inventory management, and point-of-sale systems to provide support to both patients and pharmacy staff.
Ensure accurate processing of insurance claims to resolve patient issues and prevent payment denials. Follow up with insurance companies and medical providers and participate in third-party audits.
Coordinate with medical providers to clarify prescribed medications, dosages, refills, interactions, and allergies, suggesting alternative medications as needed, and addressing any questions from medical providers.
Assist the pharmacy manager in analyzing performance metrics, including financial data, customer service, and implementing procedures for pharmacy asset protection and inventory management.
Engage in community outreach initiatives to promote pharmacy services, enhance growth opportunities, and contribute to healthier lives.
Collaborate with centralized support for patient registration, issue resolution, and assist in addressing patient concerns. In virtual settings, conduct virtual product reviews by adhering to specific company protocols and guidelines.Team and Performance Management
Support the Pharmacy Manager in staff recruitment and training.
Reinforce the Pharmacy Manager's guidance in staff performance through coaching, constructive feedback, monitoring customer service, and fostering team member development.
Encourage teamwork and motivate team members by setting clear expectations, monitoring progress, and cultivating a shared vision.Training and Professional Development
Maintain current knowledge and required licensing/credentialing/certification as mandated by federal and state regulations to provide clinical services.
Stay informed about pharmacy and healthcare developments by reading relevant journals, company publications, and communications. Remain aware of retail and management trends and pursue best practices to enhance performance.
Obtain necessary certifications, educational credits, and training, including learning modules, as required by the company.
Seek professional growth by assessing personal performance, requesting constructive feedback, and utilizing the pharmacy manager and store manager as mentors and coaches.
Assist the Pharmacy Manager and Store Manager by relaying pertinent corporate health and wellness service information to pharmacy staff.
