We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our team at Intermountain Healthcare. As a Phlebotomist, you will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients and preparing them for laboratory testing.
Key Responsibilities- Collect blood samples from patients using venipuncture, fingerstick, and heelstick techniques.
- Identify patients using two patient identifiers and label specimens accurately.
- Determine the correct priority for STAT, Routine, ASAP, etc. specimen collections.
- Collect and receive specimens into the laboratory, utilizing computer protocols, including processing, preparation, centrifugation, aliquot, and routing of specimens.
- Ensure the timely transport and processing of all patient specimens for testing.
- File patients' lab reports, requisition charges for the business office, and send reports to outside hospitals and clinics.
- Post charges and reconcile invoices, investigating complex bills as needed.
- Enter patient demographic data accurately and maintain required lab records and logs.
- Collect statistics for reports and perform other clerical duties as directed by manager.
- High School diploma or equivalent, required.
- Phlebotomy training, required.
- Six months of experience in blood-drawing techniques, preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, required.
- One (1) year of experience in a hospital setting, preferred.
- A certification from one of the following is required:
- RPT (Registered Phlebotomy Technician)
- AMT PBT (Phlebotomy Technician)
- ASCP American Society of Clinical Pathology
- AMT American Medical Technologists
- NCCT National Center for Competency Testing
- NAPT National Association of Phlebotomy Technicians
- NHA National Health Career Association
- NPA National Phlebotomy Association
- ACA American Certification Agency for Healthcare Professionals
- ASPT American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians
- NHCO National Healthcare Certification Association
- Interact with patients, patients' family, patient care providers, and others requiring the ability to verbally communicate information.
- Operate computers and complex and delicate lab equipment with precision and accuracy.
- See and read lab equipment, labels, monitors, and documents.
- Walk while transporting phlebotomy equipment cart.
- Remain standing for long periods of time to perform work.
- Adjust body, including bending, to perform phlebotomy work.
