Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration team as a Construction Control Representative. As a vital member of the Manhattan VAMC Facilities Management Engineering Project Section, you will play a key role in supporting the NRM, Station-level, and Minor construction programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze plans and specifications, drawings, designs, site conditions, and proposed construction schedules to determine recommended action necessary to correct deficiencies.
  • Review specification packages, design drawings, and independent government cost estimates for bid ability and constructability.
  • Participate in design review conferences and review preliminary plans and specifications before advertisement for practicability, anticipated physical obstructions, and other construction difficulties.
  • Review correspondence and reports on construction status and progress, tests, administration, end contractor's estimates relative to the construction of the project, and unanticipated contingencies.
  • Provide oversight of construction operations to ensure proper quality and quantity of material and equipment, workmanship, adequacy of contractor's methods, procedures, and operations, and to ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with plans and specifications.
Requirements

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. The ideal candidate will have one year of specialized experience that equipped them with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience includes engineering aid or technician or surveying technician performing work directly related to construction, construction inspector or construction representative responsible for interpreting plans and specifications, inspecting materials and workmanship, and insuring adherence to safety requirements, or supervising of craftsperson's, equipment operators, or mechanics engaged in construction work.

The selected candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and must be able to communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and other team members.
