Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Nurse Aide to join our Student Support Services team at London City Schools. As a key member of our health services team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being and safety of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer oral medications and maintain accurate records as instructed by the District Nurse.
  • Order and replenish first aid supplies in the building where you are housed.
  • Perform head lice screenings and report any students with head lice to the nurse and principal.
  • Conduct vision, hearing, and scoliosis checks under the direction of the district nurse.
  • Communicate with special education case managers to complete and write-up vision and hearing screenings on students referred to special education.
  • Provide support to students with diabetes, including monitoring blood sugar levels, administering insulin shots, and providing other necessary care.
  • Make calls to parents and follow up on any long-term absences due to illness, head lice, etc.
  • Complete incident reports and make calls to parents reporting student illness or injury.
  • Examine, treat, and report injuries that may occur when the school nurse is not in the building.
  • Update and maintain student health and immunization records, including information for current students and new students.
  • Conduct follow-up activities for failed screenings, including re-screening, second letters or calls to parents, and notifying teachers.
  • Enter annual health information on the database for vision, hearing, diagnosis, medications, blood pressure, scoliosis, and report unique health situations to staff.
  • Implement student health service plans as directed by the District Nurse.
  • Demonstrate proper hand-washing techniques to students.
  • Conduct re-checks as needed for all screenings and referrals.
  • Send referral letters to new students who have been referred and provide a list to the principal.
  • Communicate all legitimate concerns to the supervisor.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • LPN license required.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Meets all mandated health requirements, including a negative tuberculosis test.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background investigation.
  • Ability to learn and perform all assigned duties.
  • Ability to physically manage students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrates maturity and the ability to work with students and their families.
Working Conditions

Exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases may occur. Interaction with disruptive and/or unruly individuals may also occur. Exposure to student exuberance and commotion is common. Duties may involve operating and/or riding in a vehicle. Duties may involve working under time constraints to meet deadlines. Duties may involve dispensing medications and exposure to personal hygiene products, cleaning solvents, and chemical vapors. Duties may involve wearing protective clothing and/or safety equipment.
