Role Overview

The Ministry Director for Discipleship and Formation will play a pivotal role in overseeing the discipleship ministry of The Episcopal Diocese of Virginia, focusing on the faith formation of young people through Shrine Mont Camps.

Job Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with the camp's architect team to implement strategic goals and communicate the vision across the diocese and beyond.
  • Recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, and terminating staff members, including full-time support staff, summer assistant directors, and summer staff.
  • Developing and maintaining a healthy organizational culture that fosters inclusivity, encouragement, kindness, and reconciliation.
  • Ensuring spiritual formation experiences and camp programs align with the values of The Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Virginia.
  • Overseeing crisis and risk management, healthcare procedures, and emergency response plans.
Key Qualifications

The successful candidate should possess:

  • About ten years of direct experience in residential camping ministry or translatable experience working with children, youth, and young adults.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build and maintain relationships and manage complex teams.
  • Flexibility, creativity, and the ability to work effectively in unstructured environments.
Community and Benefits

During the summer, the director will reside on site at Shrine Mont in the picturesque Shenandoah Valley. The remainder of the year, they will be based in Richmond, V.A., at the diocesan offices. Richmond is a thriving historical city known for education, arts, and a diverse food scene.
