Position Overview:
This role is responsible for the specialized management of laboratory and pathology services. The objective is to uphold quality operations that deliver efficient, timely, and cost-effective laboratory services, thereby enhancing patient experiences. This position reports to Laboratory Administration, the Medical Director, and the Technical Supervisor.

Qualifications & Experience

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications of a Medical Lab Technician or Medical Lab Scientist, along with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in the area of management. Preference will be given to Registered Medical Technologists.

Required Certifications, Licenses, or Registrations: Candidates should preferably hold certifications from the American Association of Bioanalysts, MT (AAB); American Medical Technologists, MT (AMT); American Society for Clinical Pathology, MT (ASCP); National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel CLS (NCA); or equivalent categorical registration in Medical Technology.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Possess a thorough understanding of laboratory operations and experience with regulatory and accreditation standards. Demonstrated knowledge of management practices is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct technical support to laboratory operations and staff; assist in the development and implementation of effective quality improvement initiatives that cater to the laboratory's requirements. Monitor, report, and enhance key quality performance metrics. Seek guidance from the technical supervisor, lab director, or medical director as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the technical supervisor and/or manager to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Manage employee performance effectively, focusing on training, development, and technical competency. Conduct performance evaluations as assigned, with an emphasis on employee satisfaction and retention.
  • Deliver effective area-specific management through direction, oversight, and consultation that aligns with organizational strategies, goals, and budgetary constraints.
  • Facilitate standardization through evaluation and approval processes. Act as a communication liaison between laboratory administration and staff.
  • Encourage teamwork and exceptional customer service. Communicate effectively using appropriate verbal and written skills, ensuring that all official communications are timely, complete, relevant, and appropriately formatted.
  • The responsibilities outlined are general in nature and serve as examples of the duties performed. Management retains the right to modify or add duties as necessary.
Physical and Environmental Requirements

This position may involve frequent exposure to challenging physical environments, including high noise levels and temperature variations. Occasional handling of potentially hazardous equipment and constant exposure to biohazardous conditions, such as risks associated with radiation, bloodborne pathogens, fumes, or toxic chemicals, necessitate strict adherence to safety protocols. The role may require frequent working hours beyond the standard schedule, with activities subject to significant volume fluctuations. Physical demands may include occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds, as well as frequent standing, walking, and other physical activities.
