Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Baird, Hampton & Brown. As a Graduate Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing HVAC and plumbing projects in various industries, including commercial, industrial, retail, medical, and critical care environments. You will work closely with Professional Engineers, Engineers-in-Training, and other disciplines to develop technical skills and professional skills in the design process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design heating, ventilating, and air conditioning installations and underground steam, gas, and compressed-air utilities.
  • Design constant volume and variable volume ductwork systems.
  • Supervise the installation of the above equipment and utilities.
  • Prepare cost estimates, specifications, and design analyses.
  • Learn to manage the mechanical engineering of small projects.
  • Balance workload and varying requirements of multiple projects.
  • Understand mechanical and plumbing system design and applications, can anticipate what systems are required for different projects.
  • Perform space planning, future planning, anticipate mechanical room sizes, and identify conflicts.
  • Coordinate and attend meetings with clients, consultants, owners, and internal staff members on projects.
Requirements
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Engineer in Training certification or the ability to receive within one year.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills - Connections are a critical part of how we work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing HVAC, plumbing, or fire protection in Revit or AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in Revit or AutoCAD and Microsoft Office. Other relevant programs could include HAP, Trace 700, or Bluebeam.
Physical Demands
This position is primarily sedentary with long periods of sitting, but occasional walking and lifting up to 25lbs may occur. Occasionally bending, squatting, and reaching overhead may also occur. Additionally, extensive computer usage is required daily. The position will attend site visits, which may occasionally include exposure to weather, tight spaces, or dusty conditions.
