Composite Assembly Specialist

Position Overview
As a Composite Assembly Specialist, you will engage in the assembly processes required for honeycomb, composite, or fiberglass bonded sub-assemblies. Your role will involve a variety of tasks that contribute to the manufacturing of complex structural components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute assembly and installation tasks, including drilling, reaming, and riveting, while adhering to specified torque operations on structural assemblies.
  • Perform all necessary operations for the location, installation, assembly, and integration of major structural sub-assemblies, utilizing specialized tooling and jigs as needed.
  • Coordinate the building and mating of structures, ensuring accurate layout and location of rivet, bolt, and fastener hole patterns.
  • Load jigs and conduct necessary work or rework to finalize assemblies, positioning and laying up parts with available tooling.
  • Fabricate detail components such as shims, splices, and brackets, employing shop aids and tools to facilitate assembly and installation.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the team.

Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Must possess specific vision abilities, including close vision and depth perception.
  • Effective communication skills are essential.
  • Frequent walking and the use of hands for handling tools and controls are required.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and varying environmental conditions is common.

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • Experience in aerospace assembly is preferred.
  • Proficiency in understanding tolerances and using precision measuring tools.
  • Mathematical skills, including decimals and fractions, are necessary; knowledge of geometry and trigonometry is advantageous.
  • Ability to learn new software programs and internal systems is required.
  • Must be capable of reading and interpreting technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with handling adhesive and pre-preg materials is essential.
  • Experience in performing lay-up of pre-preg materials and adhesives is required.

Base compensation is offered on an hourly basis. Ducommun is an equal opportunity employer.
