Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect all phases of construction on highway construction, bridge and maintenance projects located in the South Boston/ South Hill, VA area.
  • Foster a partnering relationship with contractors, the general public, and other project stakeholders.
  • Train and supervise trainee inspectors.
  • Monitor the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contractor compliance of moderate complexity under the supervision of senior inspectors.
  • Perform daily record keeping of project activities.
  • Prepare monthly project estimates.

Requirements
  • High School diploma with a minimum of three years of relevant experience and/or an Associate's degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology.
  • Working knowledge of mathematics in both algebra and geometry.
  • Proficient in the use of iPad, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox and/or OneDrive.
  • Ability to work independently, use own judgment and make decisions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of roadway, structure and bridge construction methods, materials, standards, construction symbols and terminology.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal environmental, safety, EEO guidelines and regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret roadway, bridge and structure plans and contract specifications.
