Job Title: Fire Inspector

Coastal Carolina University is seeking a highly skilled Fire Inspector to join our team in the Environmental Health & Safety department. As a Fire Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting regular inspections of facilities and fire safety equipment to ensure compliance with applicable fire codes, laws, and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities and fire safety equipment to identify hazardous conditions and fire code violations.
  • Determine corrective actions necessary to bring properties into compliance with applicable fire codes, laws, and regulations.
  • Produce detailed reports of fire inspections performed, fire code violations observed, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Inspect and test fire protection and/or fire suppression systems, fire extinguishers, and AEDs to verify compliance with applicable laws, codes, and regulations.
  • Coordinate with fire safety vendors for approved repairs of fire and life safety equipment and systems.
  • Respond to fire alarm activations and fire-related incidents on campus, serving as a liaison with responding authorities and providing logistical support in returning campus to normal operations.
  • Assist with the regular conduct of residential facilities fire exit drills, monitor and evaluate evacuation procedures, and assist with fire prevention education activities and initiatives for campus staff, faculty, and students.
  • Assist the CCU Fire Marshal with acceptance tests and inspections of newly installed fire protection systems according to applicable codes and ordinances.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a fire inspector or related field.
  • Valid SC driver's license.
  • Certified International Code Council Fire Inspector 1 or successfully obtain the ICC Fire Inspector 1 certification within 12 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current International Code Council (ICC) Fire Inspector 1 Certification.

Coastal Carolina University offers a competitive salary range of $18.00 to $20.00 per hour, with normal work hours varying between 25 hours per week.
