Nuclear & Radiation Analyst / Subject Matter Expert (SME)


The ideal candidate will deliver specialized nuclear and radiological knowledge to support Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, Explosives (CBRNE) Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) threat assessments, nuclear and radiological detection initiatives, nuclear policy formulation, operational planning, and emergency response strategies related to nuclear armaments.

This role may also involve the development or contribution to CBRNE Research & Development (R&D) projects focused on nuclear and radiological challenges; executing modeling and simulation tasks for capabilities or programs aimed at detecting or identifying nuclear and radiological materials; offering technical and technological counsel for the procurement of nuclear and radiological systems; and conducting or leading independent verification and validation processes, or related peer reviews, for nuclear and radiological dispersion software, programs, technologies, and strategies.

The responsibilities of the team member may include:

- Investigating and providing insights on cutting-edge technologies, particularly in the realm of nuclear and radiological detection
- Assessing the viability of technical solutions to challenges
- Reviewing technical reports related to nuclear and radiological topics and offering critiques of methodologies and outcomes
- Formulating and assessing scientific capability strategies
- Creating testing and evaluation methodologies
- Evaluating the effectiveness, safety, and lifecycle costs of proposed or implemented scientific solutions
- Establishing, overseeing, and maintaining a centralized repository of technical program information (e.g., reports, requirements, etc.)
- Organizing, coordinating, and engaging in meetings, discussions, and seminars on nuclear and radiological threat and detection technology subjects
- Communicating scientific findings to both technical and non-technical audiences as required

Required Qualifications:
Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's or Master's of Science Degree in nuclear engineering, physics, health physics/radiation protection.

Degrees with professional experience in nuclear and radiological fields, including biology, chemistry, explosives, applied mathematics, or civil/mechanical/environmental/electrical engineering will be considered.

- SECRET clearance (or eligibility to obtain a minimum of an Interim Secret clearance)

All Level:
- Analyst Junior-Level: 1-2 years of professional work experience

Salary Range: $67,800 - $105,975

- Analyst Mid-Level: 3-5 years of professional work experience

Salary Range: $74,500 - $116,425

- SME 1 Senior-Level: 5-10 years of professional work experience

Salary Range: $90,300 - $141,075

- SME 2 Expert-Level: 10 or more years of professional work experience

Salary Range: $109,100 - $170,450

- Proficiency in reading, analyzing, and critiquing scientific manuscripts, akin to a peer-review process

- Comfort discussing technical elements of laboratory research

- Expertise in the field of threats pertinent to domestic national security

- Strong communication skills, including technical writing and editing, oral communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, critical thinking, and the ability to engage with performers and project managers

- Publications, patents, or other documented evidence of expertise in these domains

- Self-motivation and the capability to devise paths to success, including troubleshooting and independently reviewing instructions and guidance to achieve objectives

- Evidence of providing scientific guidance to stakeholders, both in written and verbal forms, tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences. This evidence may include conference presentations, industry days, publications, feasibility analyses, or market research regarding state-of-the-art technologies and their implications

- Experience in providing strategic scientific guidance, such as technology roadmaps, feasibility analysis, and market research concerning the boundaries of state-of-the-art technology

- Experience in facilitating technology transition from research and development to operational application.

- Experience supporting the Department of Defense

- Demonstrated strong technical writing skills, targeting both technical and non-technical audiences

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially PowerPoint, Excel, and Project)

- PhD in Nuclear Engineering or a nuclear/radiological field

- Candidates with a Secret (Top Secret/SCI) clearance are strongly preferred

Salary at Noblis is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the combination of education, certifications, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, internal and external equity, location, and clearance level, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements and applicable employment laws.

The projected compensation range for this position is provided within the posting and is based on full-time status. Part-time staff receive a prorated salary based on regularly scheduled hours.

The estimated minimum and maximum displayed represent the broadest range for this position (inclusive of high geographic and high clearance requirements) and is just one component of Noblis' total compensation package for employees.
