About the Role

Oceans Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Technician to join our team at Oceans Behavioral Hospital Greater New Orleans. As a Mental Health Technician, you will play a vital role in maintaining a therapeutic milieu and supporting the nursing staff in providing high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to professional standards, policies, and procedures, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Apply supportive behavior when assisting in the control of patients who exhibit unacceptable behavior, and employ de-escalation and therapeutic interventions as needed.
  • Inventory patient belongings accurately, secure contraband as needed, and complete unit safety checks.
  • Implement patient care activities under the direction and supervision of licensed nursing personnel, including vital signs, weights, ADL, intake and output documentation, nutritional monitoring, and communication of findings to the nurse.
  • Assist patients with laundry, meals, bathroom functions, and maintenance of belongings, and assist at-risk and/or physically challenged patients with mobility needs as needed.
  • Individualize patient care activities to meet the age-specific, disability, and cultural sensitivity needs of each patient.
  • Communicate and document patient observations and data effectively in the patient record, and document patient departure from the unit, significant occurrences, observed behavior, vital signs, nutrition intake, and patient observation findings as requested by the registered nurse.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A high school graduate or equivalent with CNA certification or at least 6 months of prior bedside, direct patient care experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instruction.
  • A warm empathetic attitude, respect for dignity, worth, and potentiality of clients, and a high sense of personal integrity.
  • The ability to work under close supervision and successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans-approved behavioral de-escalation program.
