Diesel Electrician

We are seeking a skilled Diesel Electrician to join our team at Union Pacific Railroad. As a Diesel Electrician, you will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing the electrical systems of our diesel-electric locomotives.

• Conduct scheduled electrical inspections and circuit tests on various components using schematics and location circuit plans.
• Perform maintenance and repair of electrical components in locomotive cabs or electrical compartments, adhering to company and industry standards.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical systems and components to determine the root cause of problems.
• Coordinate work activities and plan the necessary steps to complete tasks, considering equipment requirements.
• Utilize shop machinery, equipment, and tools effectively and safely.
• Communicate technical information, job procedure recommendations, and other relevant work-related details verbally and in writing.
• Foster positive working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, contractors, and customers.

• Possession of a valid driver's license.
• Proficiency in keyboarding.
• Competence in basic mathematics.
• Background in electronics, control systems, AC/DC motors, or possession of a current journeyman's electrical card.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and prints.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective information delivery to coworkers and supervisors.

• Completion of a recognized formal electrical training program.
• Possession of relevant certifications and/or licenses as an electrician.
• An Associate's degree in electricity or electronics.
• Demonstrated experience working outdoors in diverse weather conditions.
• Proficiency in handling large motor generators and/or high-voltage circuitry.
• Proven expertise in working with electronics and/or electro-mechanical systems.

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment with a focus on safety and quality. The position will involve working at heights, in confined spaces, and with large equipment.
