We are seeking an experienced Screed Operator to join our team at H&K Group, Inc.

The Screed Operator will be responsible for operating asphalt pavers and screeds to apply asphalt to roadbeds, parking lots, and airport runways. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of the paving industry, including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction, and other details related to asphalt paving.

• Operate asphalt pavers and screeds to apply asphalt per plan and quality specifications
• Make normal adjustments for obtaining proper depth, grade, and finished cross section of asphalt material via screed controls
• Oil, grease, and service equipment
• Manipulate hand or foot levers to control movement of machine spreads and levels asphalt on subgrade of highway and related surfaces
• Other duties as assigned

• Thorough understanding of the paving industry
• Experience with asphalt paver and screed operation in roadbeds, parking lots, and/or airport runways
• Ability to operate asphalt paver/screed within designated area with attention to detail and emphasis on craftsmanship
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Problem-solving skills
• Ability to fit test & utilize appropriate PPE as needed
• Ability to meet physical requirements (movement, lifting, as relevant to job)

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Four years of experience with roller machines on highway road construction projects
• Experience with other heavy equipment commonly used in highway road construction
• OSHA or other relevant safety certifications

The Screed Operator will work in a fast-paced construction environment, regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, vibration, and high, precarious places. The noise level is usually very loud.
