Position OverviewThe Surgical Technician plays a crucial role in the operating room, working under the supervision of the surgical team to ensure a safe and efficient environment for surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Scrubbing In: Prepare for various surgical procedures by scrubbing in, handling surgical instruments, sutures, and sponges, while anticipating the surgeon's needs.
- Aseptic Technique: Maintain strict aseptic technique and collaborate with the circulating nurse to ensure all instruments are accounted for during and after the procedure.
- Patient Monitoring: Observe and report any changes in the patient's condition to the nursing staff and anesthesia team.
- Preparation: Ensure that all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and ready for use prior to scheduled operations.
- Environment Maintenance: Keep the operating room clean and safe, restocking supplies and sterilizing equipment as needed.
- Patient Transport: Assist in the transportation of patients to and from the operating room, verifying patient identity and aiding in positioning for surgery.
- Collaboration: May assist as a second circulator under the direction of a registered nurse and contribute to departmental education programs.
- Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned to support the surgical team.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited surgical technician program or equivalent training.
- Certification by the Association of Surgical Technologists is highly desirable.
- One to two years of experience as a surgical technician is preferred.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 5 pounds.
- Commitment to on-call duties as required.
