Role: Emergency Room/ICU Veterinary Assistant
Overview:
The ideal candidate will support veterinarians and technicians in the Emergency and ICU units of Mount Laurel Animal Hospital, a bustling environment staffed by a committed team. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, gathering medical histories, managing appointment flow, conducting radiographic imaging, performing venipuncture, and educating clients. The veterinary assistant will work with a variety of species, including cats, dogs, and exotic animals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians with examinations of emergency cases.
- Support veterinary technicians in treatments and patient care.
- Engage in patient diagnostics and care, including laboratory work and treatments.
- Utilize IMPROMED for charge input and medical record management.
- Prepare and execute radiographic procedures.
- Maintain and organize the treatment area.
- Send out laboratory tests and conduct in-house bloodwork using IDEXX/ABAXIS equipment.
- Administer subcutaneous fluids, injections, and perform blood draws and IVC placements.
Qualifications:
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- At least 3 months of experience as a veterinary assistant (experience requirement waived for current veterinary students).
- Familiarity with commonly used medications.
Physical Demands:
This position is physically demanding, requiring frequent bending and prolonged standing. It involves routine lifting and restraining of animals, with the ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
Work Schedule:
Full-time positions available across all shifts, with a flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
