General Overview:
The role involves delivering essential public health nursing services within a health department setting. The position encompasses the assessment, planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of nursing services aimed at individuals, families, and communities.
Supervision:
This position operates under the general oversight of the designated Program Coordinator, with no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break. No mandatory overtime or night shifts, and 13 paid holidays are included.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assess the physical, social, and emotional health requirements of individuals and families using systematic evaluation methods, including health history and physical examinations.
2. Provide suitable counseling and referrals, monitoring the outcomes of these referrals.
3. Implement nursing interventions to prevent illness and promote health within the community, including immunizations and STD testing.
4. Review and assess the effectiveness of care plans and nursing services, making necessary adjustments.
5. Conduct chart reviews to ensure quality care and maintain accurate records of lab results.
6. Assist physicians during medical clinics and engage in community health promotion through educational initiatives.
7. Utilize epidemiological techniques for disease control and collaborate with Disease Intervention Specialists.
8. Participate in nursing functions in compliance with licensing regulations and prepare lab specimens for mailing.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
(a) High school diploma or GED equivalent.
(b) Licensed to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in Texas.
(c) Preferred two years of full-time, paid experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to foster effective working relationships with diverse individuals.
- Proficient in operating relevant tools and equipment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Capability to manage stressful situations effectively.
- Competence in evaluating information accurately and applying relevant regulations.
- Valid state driver's license may be required for job duties.
Physical Requirements:
The physical demands include frequent use of hands for handling objects and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. The role may also require walking, sitting, and talking.
Work Environment:
The work environment varies based on the number of individuals present. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities.
Benefits:
The City of Texarkana offers three weeks of paid vacation, three weeks of paid sick leave, and 13 paid holidays annually. Retirement benefits are provided through the Texas Municipal Retirement System, with contributions from both the city and the employee. Health, dental, and vision insurance are available at a minimal cost, along with life insurance coverage. Insurance becomes effective after 30 days of employment.
