Railcar Switching Operator

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Switchman to operate locomotives and move railcars according to a switch list at our rail tank car repair shop in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate locomotive to transport material and spot rail cars utilizing instructions from a switch list.
  • Regularly operate locomotive in a congested area and must use considerable caution to prevent damage to rail cars or accidents to employees.
  • Operate switches and direct flow of cars in rail yard.
  • Maintain area in a neat and orderly manner and report work hazards.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED or ability to successfully complete an on-site basic skills assessment.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently both as a member of a team and independently.
  • Able to follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime.

We offer a competitive compensation package, including $25.27-$26.27 per hour, plus an additional $2.00 per hour for working 2nd shift hours or $1.50 per hour for working 3rd shift hours.
