Job Summary

This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating land and topographical surveying activities with various departments, agencies, and the public. The City Surveyor provides professional land surveying assistance to the City, including boundary disputes, property title issues, and land ownership questions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, sign, and seal right-of-way and easement descriptions, surplus property descriptions, boundary surveys, and plats in accordance with City and State requirements.
  • Maintain the city-wide vertical control monument network, horizontal and vertical GPS monument network, and City capital project master control points.
  • Review and interpret construction plans and survey data for accuracy and thoroughness, and accurately stake and/or monitor information in the field.
  • Manage a 2-person survey crew.
  • Review all surveys across the City.
  • Ensure quality control for all projects across the City.
  • Provide project estimates for City projects.
  • Maintain necessary licensure.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Hire, train, evaluate, and discipline staff, as well as assign, schedule, and review the work of survey personnel.
  • Provide technical assistance for the survey division.
  • Assist City engineers in resolving design and construction conflicts and implement solutions in the field.
  • Gather and process necessary survey data to assist engineers with in-house design projects.
  • Track and monitor the division's operating budget, performance measures, and workload data.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or surveying.
  • Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) License required.
  • Valid class 'C' Texas Driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • GIS experience.
  • AutoCAD and Bluebeam experience.
