Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Optical Network Engineer to join our team at Con Edison. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our optical transport networks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement DWDM systems, including OADM and ROADM configurations
  • Develop and maintain strong working knowledge of optical theory, transport technologies, and the operation of optical transport systems
  • Evaluate new technologies and standard network design
  • Ensure the security and integrity of our networks
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in IT, preferably in optical network engineering
  • Strong understanding of optical theory, transport technologies, and the operation of optical transport systems
  • Excellent collaboration and team building skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Cisco NCS2006 / 15454 MSTP / 15454 MSPP / and Cisco EPNM application experience
  • Background or working knowledge of Radio Frequency communications
  • Basic understanding of the Federal Communications Commission
Physical Demands

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Push, pull, lift up to 40 pounds
  • Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for extended periods
  • Have excellent manual dexterity and be able to use hands for extended periods
  • Stoop, bend, reach, and kneel throughout the workday
  • Be able to read small print and symbols
Additional Requirements

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as a hard hat, gloves, and safety shoes when required
