Job Overview

Position Summary:
Equine Therapy Instructors play a vital role in delivering English and Western riding instruction to participants, including those with disabilities. They are tasked with tracking and reporting on student progress, conducting a variety of lessons throughout the week, which may include mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends, all while operating under the guidance of the Program Coordinator.

Instructors are responsible for independently managing sessions, supported by volunteers, and ensuring a safe and clean environment for all students, horses, and other farm animals.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to and promote the organization's mission, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Deliver riding lessons to individuals with and without disabilities, ensuring proper grooming and tacking of horses prior to each session.
  • Assist riders of various ages in ground lessons, as well as English and/or Western pleasure riding.
  • Provide support to riders with disabilities through the use of adaptive riding equipment tailored to their specific needs.
  • Educate students on proper safety practices around animals and within the barn environment.
  • Facilitate disability awareness training for students without disabilities.
  • Design lesson plans, maintain progress documentation for each rider, and communicate effectively with parents and therapists.
  • Ensure a clean and safe environment by caring for horses, barn animals, and equipment.
  • Oversee program volunteers, offering training, monitoring safety, tracking volunteer hours, and engaging in volunteer recognition initiatives.
  • Assist in organizing birthday parties, special events, and other horsemanship-related activities.

Qualifications:
Certification Requirement:
MUST BE PATH CERTIFIED

Education/Certification:
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant certification.
  • Valid Illinois Driver's License.
  • Commercial Driver's License is a plus.
  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Certification/Licensure: Must complete necessary checks and training as mandated by the Program.

Experience:
  • 1 to 2 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • 2 to 5 years of relevant experience is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Capability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, teamwork skills, and sound judgment.
  • Physical capabilities including lifting, overhead work, climbing, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, carrying, and walking.
  • Basic computer skills, including keyboarding, and the ability to read and comprehend written information.
  • Access to a vehicle during work hours and the ability to drive.

Compensation:
$14.00 per hour
