Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert nursing care to patients receiving diagnostic or therapeutic services in various healthcare environments.
- Conduct patient assessments, document findings, and inform physicians of any abnormalities.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and the healthcare team to establish a comprehensive care plan.
- Coordinate ongoing patient care, identifying discharge needs and facilitating planning as necessary.
- Participate in telephone triage and call rotations as required by the department.
- Execute nursing procedures and treatments as directed by physicians or licensed independent practitioners.
- Evaluate and uphold standards of care in alignment with Cleveland Clinic policies and procedures.
- Assist with specialized patient care equipment as dictated by the clinical department and medical specialty.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician or licensed independent practitioner.
- Oversee and engage in the evaluation and supervision of nursing care provided to patients.
- Prioritize patient care needs and delegate nursing tasks according to staff qualifications and capabilities.
- Serve as charge nurse when assigned to ensure effective operations and continuity of care.
- Engage in educational, research, and performance improvement initiatives. Provide health education to patients and their families.
- Develop, assess, and document educational materials tailored to the learning needs of patients and families.
- Assist in preparing department-specific educational resources for patients and colleagues. Cover other nursing roles as needed.
- Maintain core nursing competencies (CPR, skills labs).
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education Requirements:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
- BSN is preferred.
Certifications:
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is necessary within six months of hire for areas performing moderate sedation procedures.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through AHA is required upon hire or within one year for those working in the Emergency Department.
- Certification as a Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI) or Vascular Access Board Certified (VA-BC) is preferred within three years for areas utilizing Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC Lines).
Work Complexity:
- Requires critical thinking abilities, decisive judgment, and the capacity to work independently.
- Must manage stress effectively and respond appropriately in challenging situations.
Experience Requirements:
- A minimum of one year of recent RN experience is required; two years is preferred.
- For specialized areas such as Cardiac Catheterization, one year of critical care experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
- Demonstrated clinical competence is essential.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of motion, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
- Involves prolonged standing and walking.
- Requires corrected hearing and vision within normal ranges.
- May involve exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical demands exceed those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Adhere to Standard Precautions by utilizing personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
