Department Overview

The Gas Operations department is dedicated to maintaining the secure and dependable distribution of natural gas to our clientele. This division oversees all facets of gas distribution and transmission operations, which encompass planning, engineering, maintenance, construction, restoration, and emergency response.

Position Summary

This role is represented by IBEW Local 1245, an organization with a century-long history of advocating for employees at PG&E. This position is subject to collective bargaining agreements.

As an Electric Locator, you will possess the qualifications of a Journeyman Electrician and will be responsible for the accurate, safe, and efficient identification of underground utilities, including electric and gas lines. You will also undertake 'standby' responsibilities when contractors are excavating near critical facilities. This role involves completing necessary documentation and serving as a liaison to third-party contractors, customers, and private landowners. You may also perform gas locating and marking duties as required alongside electric locating tasks. While standby work for non-company construction jobs is primarily handled by Gas Compliance classifications, Electric Locators may be called upon to assist if additional resources are necessary and if they are DOT operator qualified. The tasks associated with damage prevention are not exclusive to this classification, and Electric Locators must complete training and meet qualifications both initially and on an annual basis.

This position is intended to fill vacancies in the Bay Area region.

This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.

As per Letter of Agreement 16-28, Electric Locators are committed to this classification for a period of 24 months.

Compensation

PG&E is providing the hourly rate that reflects the company's good faith estimate for this position at the time of posting. This role is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates and increases. The starting wage rate for this position is $62.91 per hour, specific to the job's locality. The wage rate is influenced by various factors, including specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.

Job Responsibilities

  • Complete necessary documentation and act as a liaison to third-party contractors, customers, and private landowners.
  • Perform standby duties when contractors are excavating near critical facilities.
  • Conduct accurate, safe, and efficient locating and marking of underground utilities, including electric and gas.
  • Participate in DOT Operations/Maintenance and Emergency tasks.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to drive safely in all weather and road conditions.
  • Ability to work extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Completion of an IBEW/Joint Apprentice Training Committee (JATC) sanctioned Electrician training program.
  • Must be able to wear company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous military experience.
  • Electrician Journey certification.
  • Manhole safety training.

  • Five years of journey-level experience in industrial electrical construction.
  • Experience with electronic or mechanical equipment.

  • Prior experience with utility locating and marking.
