Yard Operations Forklift Operator

Overview:
The Yard Operations Forklift Operator plays a crucial role in overseeing the transportation and organization of pallets, products, and trailers within the shipping dock, warehouse, and weighing stations.
The role reports to the Shipping Supervisor and typically follows a work schedule from Tuesday to Friday (days) with the possibility of overtime, occasional Monday shifts, and weekend work as required.
Key Responsibilities:
Operates with a focus on safety to transport and load products, and manage trailer staging between the yard and loading areas.
Maintains organization within the truck yard, loads product trailers, and prepares trailers for shipping processes.
Assists in the docking and undocking of trailers, ensuring the safe and correct handling of products and trailers.
Conducts inspections of containers and performs routine yard checks.
Safely loads products onto trailers while maintaining accurate load documentation and delivery records.
Ensures cleanliness and orderliness of equipment, warehouse, and storage areas; engages in ongoing housekeeping tasks.
Adheres to GMP, safety, and USDA standards to ensure high-quality operations.
Actively seeks to learn new skills, cross-trains colleagues, and instructs new vehicle operators on safety protocols.
Completes additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or GED (minimum required);
Experience:
Familiarity with yard dog equipment operation.
Experience in material handling and forklift operation is essential.
CDL and truck driving experience is preferred.
Skills/Abilities/Attributes:
Extensive experience in operating and troubleshooting yard jockey equipment.
CDL and truck driving experience is preferred but not mandatory.
Strong understanding of food safety and animal welfare compliance.
Self-motivated team player with effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
Basic computer and mathematical skills are necessary.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move up to 40 lbs.; occasionally up to 50 lbs.
Capable of standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and stooping for up to 12 hours per shift.
Must be able to work safely in indoor and outdoor environments with varying temperatures and conditions.
