Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead X-Ray/CT Technologist to join our team at Advocate Health. As a key member of our imaging department, you will be responsible for leading a team of technologists and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of technologists and provide guidance and support to ensure excellent patient care and high-quality imaging results.
  • Assist with human resource responsibilities, including interviewing and selecting new employees, staff development, and performance feedback.
  • Monitor inventory levels, labor productivity, and assist with managing department resources.
  • Collaborate with other departments across the system to provide education on managing patients after procedures and imaging department processes and procedures.
  • Operate CT equipment to perform basic to advanced diagnostic procedures, including scrub CT guided invasive procedures, angiography, cardiac, cyber-knife, venography, cerebral, positron emission tomography (PET)/CT, and 3D reformatting.
  • Obtain medical history from patients and compare requisitions to physicians' orders to ensure exam accuracy.
  • Position patients and select proper scanning factors, adjust factors to attain the appropriate images, and provide radiation protection and safety in accordance with regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare and administer contrast media under the direction of the Radiologist, and assist in the proper scanning techniques.
  • Post-process images as directed and accurately identify and label images identifying patient name, medical record unit (MRU) number, and location or position of scan on all images.
  • Oversee the maintenance of records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enter patient and study information into the radiology information system, and document billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges.
  • Identify equipment performance issues and ensure and/or perform equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures.
  • Report malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff and evaluate new products and equipment.
Requirements
  • Radiographer license issued by the state of Wisconsin.
  • Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Computed Tomography (CT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months.
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology.
  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in Computerized Tomography (CT) as a CT Technologist.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and radiation safety.
  • Proficient in Intravenous (IV) and venipuncture (if required by facility).
  • Advanced knowledge of accreditation policies and procedures to assist in facilitation of departmental accreditation.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills such as delegation, team building, managing multiple priorities, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Ability to act as a role model and to hold staff accountable to Aurora's service commitments.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient service skills to work effectively with physicians, patients, and other staff members.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance. Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present. Must have clear speech, vision, and hearing. May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
