The Student Transportation Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and organized transit of students with special needs. This position involves accompanying the bus driver to facilitate a secure environment for all passengers.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $10.00/hour

Required Skills and Competencies

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist students with disabilities in boarding and disembarking the bus based on their individual requirements.
  • Supervise students during transit and ensure their safety while crossing streets.
  • Guide children into the building and assist them in navigating their surroundings.
  • Adapt to each student's unique medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
  • Manage student behavior and report any disciplinary issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain daily communication with teachers and parents regarding student conduct on the bus.
  • Familiarize yourself with all transportation routes to provide support to the driver.
  • Keep an updated schedule of routes.
  • Ensure proper use of seat belts, harnesses, or car seats by students.
  • Follow emergency protocols and assist the driver in administering first aid when necessary.
  • Operate equipment in accordance with established safety guidelines.
  • Adhere to established procedures for performing job duties, including lifting and assisting students.
  • Understand and comply with procedures set by transportation and special education departments.
  • Assist the driver in maintaining a clean bus environment.
  • Be prepared to work flexible hours as required.
