Role Summary:

The Radiology Technologist is responsible for capturing x-ray images of specified areas of the human body for diagnostic evaluation, while providing essential support to the imaging department. This role focuses exclusively on plain films and fluoroscopy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communicates procedures to patients to ensure clarity and understanding, providing necessary educational resources.
  • Facilitates patient transport to and from clinical areas, verifying identity in accordance with established protocols. Assists in preparing patients for radiological examinations.
  • Supports technologists in managing patient reports and charts, ensuring proper organization and delivery.
  • Adheres to radiation safety protocols to minimize unnecessary exposure to patients.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media and medications within the defined scope of practice and relevant regulations.
  • Monitors patients during procedures, reporting any unusual findings and suggesting protocol enhancements as needed.
  • Ensures the timely submission of high-quality images and documentation to PACS, maintaining accuracy in patient data.
  • Conducts routine checks on equipment functionality, reporting any issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization within the department, including procedure rooms and storage areas.
  • May perform limited CT procedures in emergency situations when a CT Technologist is unavailable.
  • Operates in a consistently alert and safe manner.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements:

  • Associate's degree or completion of a radiology certification program.

Experience:

  • No prior experience necessary.

Physical Demands:

  • Regular standing and walking.
  • Frequent visual acuity for close and distant objects.
  • Regular auditory communication for sharing information.
  • Frequent lifting and moving of patients and objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting of objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Frequent use of hands for data entry and equipment operation.
  • Occasional bending and squatting.

Licensure and Certifications:

Required certifications include Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) from the American Heart Association and ARRT-R Radiography from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Additional state-specific licenses may be required based on the location of employment.
