Job Summary

The Personal Care Provider plays a vital role in providing unskilled personal care and household services for clients in their homes. This position requires a caring and compassionate individual who can serve as a companion and ensure the client's space is clean, safe, and organized.

Responsibilities
  • Home Environment Safety: Observes and maintains the home environment to ensure the safety and security of the client.
  • Household Chores: Assists with household chores, including cooking, meal preparation, cleaning, and laundry.
  • Client Support: Assists in completing activities such as shopping and appointments outside the home.
  • Companionship: Provides companionship, including social interaction, conversation, emotional reassurance, and encouragement of reading, writing, and mind-stimulating activities.
  • Personal Hygiene: Performs or assists the client with personal hygiene, including bathing, hair care, mouth care, and dressing, when skilled skin care, skilled transfer, or skilled dressing is not required.
  • Service Records: Maintains timely service records of home visits.
  • Client Care Conferences: Attends and participates in appropriate client care conferences, staff and education meetings, and agency committee meetings.
Critical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills that positively benefit interaction with clients and families, staff members, and the general public.
  • Judgment and Self-Control: Ability to exercise good judgment and self-control.
  • Safety Knowledge: Demonstrated ability to operate safely in the workplace, with experience in holding self-accountable to safety standards. Knowledge of principles and procedures of personal care and safety practices in the home care setting.
  • Family Interactions: Understanding of family interactions and the aging process.
  • Nutrition and Food Service: Beginning knowledge of nutrition and food service.
  • Personal Care Skills: Beginning skills in personal care.
  • Observation and Reporting: Ability to accurately observe, report, and record client care and condition.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing.
Qualifications
  • Driver's License: Valid, current driver's license and access to a reliable automobile, or access to public or other reliable transportation.
  • Training Program: Completion of the appropriate twenty-hour training program, or successful completion of skills validation via direct observation of the performance of tasks.
  • Personal Care Experience: Six months or more personal care experience in a home care setting preferred.
