About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Attorney to join our team at Maricopa County, AZ. As a Public Defender Attorney, you will play a critical role in representing clients in a court of law and advocating for their rights.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent clients in court, appearing at scheduled hearings and trials, and presenting oral arguments in support of their legal interests.
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis of legal issues using computerized and printed legal research tools.
  • Compose and prepare motions, briefs, correspondence, and other legal documents.
  • Prepare cases for trial by interviewing witnesses, visiting crime scenes, and reviewing evidence.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, co-workers, supervisors, and other stakeholders.
  • Travel to courts, jails, detention centers, and correctional facilities to represent clients.
  • Work collaboratively with a team of professionals, including other attorneys, mitigation specialists, investigators, and paralegals.
  • Contribute to the improvement of the office and indigent representation by teaching, mentoring, submitting articles and training materials, and serving on committees and workgroups.
Requirements
  • Juris Doctor or Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) approved law school.
  • Must be admitted to practice law and be in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona at the time of application.
  • Valid Arizona driver's license upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in criminal law (defense, prosecution, judicial).
Working Conditions
  • May be required to handle traumatic subject matter, interruptions, time pressure, high volumes of work, and other challenging situations.
  • May be required to travel to and from court locations, government facilities, and other job-related locations as necessary.
