About the Role:
As a Nighttime Patient Care Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals by promoting participation in group activities, social engagements, and various therapeutic initiatives. You will work collaboratively with a team of interdisciplinary professionals to assess and implement optimal care strategies. Your responsibilities will also include ensuring a safe and secure environment through effective de-escalation techniques, while maintaining the safety and security of patients within the unit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety of residents and maintain order, which may involve restraining individuals exhibiting dangerous behavior.
- Accompany residents to and from various activity and therapy locations, both within the facility and off-site for medical, dental, or legal appointments, ensuring maximum security.
- Assist in executing residents' treatment plans.
- Monitor patients during meals, educational sessions, and in communal areas.
- Observe, document, and report on the condition and behavior of residents.
- Utilize therapeutic interventions grounded in de-escalation, redirection, and approved behavioral management techniques.
- Support residents in maintaining their living spaces, clothing, and personal items.
- Supervise and engage with groups of patients in social and recreational activities, fostering cooperation.
- Manage security protocols, including door access, visitor searches, and radio communications.
- Conduct room searches for potential contraband to ensure patient safety.
This position may require mandatory overtime.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalency (HSE).
- Certification or willingness to obtain certification in professional rescuer CPR/AED.
- Specialized knowledge and application of psychiatric nursing care practices, including medication administration.
- Ability to accurately document reports and maintain records.
- Capability to respond effectively in emergency situations and manage challenging behaviors.
- Knowledge of behavior modification techniques and the ability to apply self-defense and restraint methods as necessary.
- Understanding of resident behavior and the ability to anticipate and address behavioral changes.
- Familiarity with institutional and unit procedures.
- Ability to assist residents with housekeeping and daily living tasks.
- Competence in following oral and written instructions.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not entail direct supervision of other staff members.
