About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Corrections Officer to join our team at the Richmond County Sheriff's Office. This is a full-time position that requires a high level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to providing excellent service to the community.
Job Summary:
The Corrections Officer will be responsible for ensuring the care and security of inmates at the County Jail, performing various tasks related to inmate processing, jail security, meal service, and transportation. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process inmates, maintain jail security, serve meals, and transport inmates
- Search prisoners, take charge of personal property, and provide inmates with opportunities to call attorneys or relatives
- Patrol the jail area to ensure security and maintain order
- Transport inmates to medical, court, and related facilities
- Supervise inmates during meals, personal hygiene, and other activities
- Escort and safeguard inmates to cells, check on their physical condition, and receive, count, record, and wash laundry
- Distribute personal and cell cleaning equipment, keep records of money received from inmates, and distribute medication as prescribed
- Prepare routine records on inmates, perform general clerical duties, and ensure the care and maintenance of quarters
- Record visits, inspect items brought into the jail, and check incoming and outgoing mail
- Investigate crimes and critical incidents, collect evidence, make arrests, and testify in court
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or its equivalent
- Citizen of the United States
- No prior convictions for crimes punishable by imprisonment
- Able to pass a background investigation, polygraph test, and drug screen
- Physically fit and able to complete a 1-mile run in 10:38 or less, 31 sit-ups in 1 minute, and 26 push-ups in 1 minute
Benefits:
This role offers a competitive salary range of $40,699.66 to $47,114.94 per year, depending on experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
