POSITION SUMMARY:
  • Under general supervision, perform repairs and installations of heating and air conditioning systems and equipment across the district.
  • Ensure the safe operation and condition of all HVAC systems within district facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • EPA Certification in refrigerant recovery with "Universal" endorsement
  • Preferred: Class "A" or "B" license issued by the State of Texas
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Experience working with public and educational officials
  • Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions
  • Capability to assist in transforming plans into completed projects
  • Knowledge of HVAC repair, maintenance, and installation methods
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and schematics
  • Proficient in performing mathematical calculations
  • Adept at diagnosing and resolving technical issues
  • Skilled in using hand and power tools
Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years in the HVAC industry
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

General:
  • Adhere to all safety and code requirements as per State, local, and Board of Education guidelines.
  • May be required to be on a 24-hour call-out schedule.
  • Diagnose and rectify malfunctions in various heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Maintain preventive maintenance schedules for all HVAC equipment, including filter changes and cleaning of coils.
  • Receive and complete work orders efficiently.
  • Select materials and hardware, estimate time and costs, and maintain accurate records of materials and labor used.
  • Inspect completed jobs to ensure cleanliness and quality.
  • Manage inventory of district-owned tools and equipment, including maintaining coolant-dispensing records to comply with federal regulations.
  • Respond to emergency calls as necessary.
  • Maintain records as required by district and EPA regarding CFC and HCPC management.
  • Install and test new HVAC equipment as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Safety:
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure safe operation.
  • Follow established safety protocols and techniques while performing job duties.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to safety guidelines.
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any unresolvable issues to the supervisor.
  • Adhere to district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
EXPECTATIONS OF MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:
  • Tools/Equipment Used: Light truck or van, various hand and power tools, and other necessary tools for assignments.
  • Motion: Frequent walking, reaching, standing, kneeling, bending, pushing, pulling, and twisting.
  • Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over) regularly.
  • Environment: Work indoors and outdoors (exposure to various weather conditions); exposure to noise and biological hazards.
  • Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Professional Dress: Attire must be clean, neat, and appropriate for the assignment, adhering to any additional standards set by the supervisor.
EVALUATIONS:
  • Performance in this role will be evaluated annually.
