Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Painter/Blaster to join our team at our Altamont, NY location. The successful candidate will be responsible for removing oxidation, scale, paint, or other undesirable surface finishes from structural steel using a media blast system. The ideal candidate will also have experience with painting and applying primer according to work instructions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare surfaces for blasting by masking areas that do not require blasting.
  • Handle products in and out of the blast booth using cranes, fork trucks, and/or pallet jacks.
  • Mix paint according to specifications and determine flow, viscosity, and coating quality.
  • Use thickness gauges and measuring instruments to ensure accurate coating application.
  • Complete blasting and painting tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain equipment to ensure proper functionality and monitor blast media usage.
  • Interact with team members and other departments in a professional manner.
  • Adhere to MWI's safety policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience in industrial paint work.
  • Knowledge of blast equipment, blast media, and blast profiles is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Ability to lift moderate to heavy pieces.
  • Able to bend and twist body in various positions.
  • Ability to wear protective equipment while working.
