We are currently looking for a Chemical Buyer to support our procurement and supply chain teams. This position will operate onsite three days a week in a hybrid work environment.

This full-time, salaried position encompasses several key responsibilities:

  1. Sourcing and Supply Management: Ensure that chemicals and components are procured effectively to support seamless execution of supply plans. This includes overseeing customer-supplied, customer-directed, and vendor-supplied materials.
  2. Purchasing and Vendor Relations: Acquire goods, materials, and services to meet operational requirements, focusing on price, quality, and delivery to maintain supply continuity. This role is pivotal in sourcing chemical ingredients for production and necessitates strong relationships with both domestic and international suppliers.
  3. Project Management: Operate with a high degree of autonomy, potentially managing specific projects or broader purchasing responsibilities.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Procurement Oversight:
    • Procure goods, materials, and services in alignment with defined cost, quality, and delivery objectives.
    • Ensure a steady supply of necessary materials and proactively address any supply challenges that could impact operations.
    • Analyze market trends, competitor actions, and supplier landscapes.
    • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
    • Prepare and present reports and updates as needed.
    • Innovate procurement processes to enhance effectiveness.
  • Supplier Management:
    • Evaluate suppliers and conduct performance assessments to ensure compliance with contracts and drive performance enhancements.
    • Maintain a professional and consistent approach in managing supplier relationships.
    • Review tenders and quotes from potential suppliers in accordance with departmental objectives.
    • Generate purchase orders based on finalized negotiations with selected suppliers.
    • Conduct research on existing and prospective suppliers.
    • Engage with suppliers to resolve issues related to pricing, quality, delivery, or invoicing.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with Supply Planning teams to align chemical and component availability with supply plans, implementing strategies to mitigate sourcing risks.
    • Maintain effective communication with all departments to present alternative supply solutions.
    • Work with Accounts Payable to address payment discrepancies.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Develop strategies to enhance operational efficiency and add value to business performance.
    • Collaborate with the procurement manager on cost-saving initiatives and alternative sourcing strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, supply chain management, or a related discipline.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a purchasing role or similar capacity.
  • In-depth knowledge of the chemical supply industry and a robust network of suppliers.
  • Strong understanding of inventory and supply chain management principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and purchasing software.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and organizational abilities.
  • Demonstrated capability to work independently.
