Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Histology Technician/Histology Technologist to join our team at Excela Health. As a Histology Technician/Histology Technologist, you will be responsible for processing and preparing pathology specimens to produce high-quality diagnostic slides for examination by a pathologist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Specimen Processing: Accession and systematically organize specimens to safeguard specimen identification and integrity.
  • Grossing and Preparation: Prepare for and assist in the grossing of specimens with a pathologist, and ready the grossing area in an organized manner to assist the pathologist and efficiently prioritize workflow.
  • Slide Preparation: Embed, cut, and perform routine stains on tissue sections, and demonstrate competency in the performance of routine and special stains.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain equipment in accordance with guidelines, including microtomes, cryostats, staining equipment, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Quality Control: Participate in routine departmental tasks, including filing slides and paraffin blocks accurately and independently, and maintaining adequate supplies of filled specimen containers.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with pathologists, histologists, and other laboratory staff to ensure timely progression of workflow and high-quality results.
  • Continuous Learning: Participate in continuing education programs, staff meetings, and other training opportunities to maintain competency in assigned areas and stay up-to-date with the latest laboratory techniques and technologies.
Requirements
  • Education: Associate's degree or higher in a related field, such as histotechnology or a related science.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in histology, with a strong background in laboratory techniques and procedures.
  • Certification: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certification required.
  • Skills: Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and excellent communication skills.
Working Conditions

This position requires working in a fast-paced laboratory environment, with frequent exposure to chemicals, biological agents, and other hazardous materials. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality and safety.
