About Beaumont
Beaumont, Texas, with a population exceeding 118,000, is situated in the Gulf Coast region of the United States, approximately 85 miles east of Houston. Historically, Beaumont has been a cornerstone of the oil industry since the Spindletop oil boom, and it remains integral to the Golden Triangle industrial area. Established in 1903 along the Neches River, the ExxonMobil Beaumont refining facilities have evolved into a comprehensive petrochemical complex spanning 2,700 acres, significantly impacting the economic and social fabric of southeast Texas. Beaumont is not only the producer of Mobil 1, the premier synthetic motor oil, but also the sole manufacturer of Mobil Aviation Greases. Additionally, we produce fuels and chemical compounds utilized in a wide array of products, including plastics and Nylon.
Role Overview
We are looking for experienced Senior Chemical Process Engineers to support either Naphtha Reforming or Distillation technology at the Beaumont Refinery.
As a Senior Chemical Process Engineer (Complex Engineer), you will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective operation of our facilities. You will be responsible for initiating and leading enhancements to unit performance, focusing on safety, production, and reliability within a collaborative team environment. Your strategic thinking, thoughtful execution, and ability to collaborate across various teams and levels will be essential. In this capacity, you will act as a senior technical resource, providing expertise to navigate complex processes across business teams.
Complex Engineers primarily focus on establishing long-term visions for unit performance and troubleshooting while also supporting daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the technical leader within the business team by:
- Mentoring junior engineers on design practices, unit health monitoring, and troubleshooting
- Providing off-hours support for abnormal and non-routine operations, including unit Turnarounds
- Assisting in the development of long-term strategies for product line enhancements
- Organizing and designing plant testing and product trials
- Collaborating with supervisors to set clear objectives and align priorities for the technical team
- Influencing others and driving towards solutions without direct authority
- Collaborate in a team setting with other engineering disciplines, operations, and mechanical personnel while interfacing with corporate technology support
- Ability to engage with third-party vendors for cost optimizations and solution development
- Serve as a process safety resource for the business team, leading Hazard and Operability Reviews (HAZOPs) and Risk Assessments by formulating closure plans for identified risks
- Leading and supporting incident investigations as the technical lead
- Assist in the development and implementation of various capital projects aimed at enhancing margins or mitigating SHE risks
- Provide field support during plant startups, shutdowns, or upsets
- Exhibit the courage to drive healthy tension between the business team and corporate technology support to achieve optimal outcomes
Required Skills
- B.S. in Chemical Engineering
- 10+ years of experience in Downstream Oil and Gas Refining, particularly in Distillation or Naphtha Reforming Technology
- Experience in process design
- Familiarity with advanced control strategies and optimization software
- Working knowledge of RBI practices (corrosion damage mechanisms/mitigations, saltation, etc.)
- Experience in risk assessment and HAZOP
- Understanding of safety relief limits (modeling and evaluations)
- Proficiency in modeling software (PROII, ASPEN, etc.)
- Kinetic Modeling experience (SOL, KBC Profimatics, etc.)
