Job Summary

ASML US, LLC is seeking a highly skilled Senior Optical Sensing Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for the development of metrology subsystems that measure and control the production of light in the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) source for next generation photolithography tools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and integrate metrology subsystems using a variety of optical and electronic measurement techniques.
  • Provide technical guidance and specifications to the team of design engineers throughout the product development cycle.
  • Lead the development and integration of innovative metrology system solutions to enable stable and efficient production of EUV for both research and product development.
  • Coordinate or execute the testing process and design verification in lab test bench and cleanroom fabrication environment.
  • Develop specifications for light emitting or light sensing opto-electronic modules in accordance with system requirements and cross-functional requirements.
  • Investigate the feasibility of applying scientific and mathematical design principles and concepts to potential inventions and products.
  • Plan and execute laboratory research pertaining to metrology design and validation in lab and cleanroom fabrication environment.
  • Work with a cross-functional team to support the development, manufacturing, and integration of innovative core technologies into engineering solutions.
  • Communicate status reports, issues, and next steps across various functional disciplines.
  • Apply broad knowledge in optics, sensors, electronics, algorithms, software, and data analysis tools to drive metrology system improvements to enable continuously increased EUV power and system availability.
  • Lead and perform integration activities including troubleshooting the control system, developing and executing test plans, to ensure the system functions as designed in the EUV light source.
  • Lead the design and building of tools that allow debugging, analysis, and performance evaluation of metrology system performance.
  • Lead the root cause analysis for metrology system failures during escalations in products for integration and research.
  • Document work results with system requirements, design specifications, procedures, and training materials.
Requirements
  • PhD in optics, photonics, electronics, physics, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or imaging sciences.
  • 2+ years' experience with a Master's degree or 4+ years' experience with a Bachelor's degree.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of clearly explaining technical issues and ideas to peers and scientists of other disciplines, as well as management and customers.
  • Hands-on experience with optical alignment processes and tools, laser systems, and building signal detection and processing systems.
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization using advanced data analysis tools (e.g. MATLAB, Python).
  • Experience with signal chain processing and opto-electronics systems is highly desirable.
  • Experience with modeling optical and opto-mechanical systems using optical design and analysis software (e.g. Zemax) is a plus.
  • Experience with mechanical design software e.g. NX is a plus.
  • Experience with supplier engagement is highly desirable.
  • Experience with semiconductor capital equipment industry is a plus.
  • Experience with advanced data acquisition and analysis tools (e.g. LabView) is a plus.
  • Able to troubleshoot failures in a complex system.
  • Able to propose and experimentally and/or theoretically validate innovative solutions to technical problems.
  • Able to convert an innovative idea into an engineering and practical solution.
  • Able to develop and review theoretical models and concepts.
  • Able to validate concepts through breadboard builds and analysis.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • High speed electronics.
  • Laser optics.

The current base annual salary range for this role is currently: $114,375-190,625

Pay scales are determined by role, level, location and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.

The Company offers employees and their families, medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are able to participate in the Company's 401k plan. Employees will also receive eight (8) hours of vacation leave every month and (13) paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
