Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join our team at Wanzek Construction. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating engineering activities on multi-discipline projects, ensuring timely completion of design documents, and providing support to the Operations team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparing project schedules and evaluating subcontractor bids
  • Collaborate with the Engineering team to monitor engineering deliverable schedules and ensure project schedules stay on track
  • Support one or more projects and proposals at a time under senior engineering leadership
  • Collect and organize questions from the team and subcontractors to be presented to clients via Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Participate in subcontractor scope clarification and lead design meetings with multiple stakeholders
  • Provide Value Engineering evaluation of conceptual design and review and audit engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with company and client requirements
  • Prepare Engineering Work Orders for execution with Engineering Consultants and develop and monitor open issues during the design phase
  • Track and monitor design progress of engineered drawing deliverables and technical submittals, and arrange for Phase I Environmental / Geotechnical Evaluations / Topographical Surveys as required
  • Assure that Reviews and Submittals are properly conducted in a timely fashion and coordinate site plan approval efforts and reviews by internal stakeholders through Page-Turn Review meetings
  • Collaborate with the Engineering team as needed to provide contract clarification and determine out-of-scope client requests, and assist with change order negotiations with subcontractors and Engineering Consultants
  • Accumulate and document in a central database 'lessons learned' for projects and travel to project sites as required to foster relationships with project teams, help solve engineering-related issues, and pick up/implement lessons learned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related major preferred, or equivalent and direct renewable energy construction experience
  • Professional Engineer certification, or path to obtain same, preferred
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and technical documents
  • Understanding of terms, nomenclature, and business models used in the construction industry
  • Ability to interact professionally with all levels within the organization and with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Take reasonable care of your own and others' health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward the company's Zero Injury principles
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Primavera, Procore, InEight, and other Construction Software
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and document project activities
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from engineering managers, project managers, superintendents, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Must demonstrate ability in leading efforts to identify and evaluate constructability and risk issues, assisting in the preparation of the project schedule, evaluation of subcontractor bids, and negotiating contracts with Design Professionals (including scope of services)
