We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Staff Nurse I to join our team at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria. In this role, you will provide direct patient care to our diverse population, including individuals with HIV, those seeking gender-affirming care, patients requiring Prep and Infectious Disease services, and general primary care.

About the Role

">

The Staff Nurse I works under general supervision, providing education to patients and their legal guardians as needed, triaging phone calls, refilling medications (under the direction of Providers), preparing patients for clinic appointments, and documenting information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

As a member of our team, you will maintain a collaborative approach to patient care, working closely with nursing staff, Case Managers, and Support Staff to ensure comprehensive support for patients' needs. You will also maintain excellent relationships with Providers, effectively communicating patient needs and responding promptly to requests for follow-up care.

Responsibilities

  • ">
  • Educate patients and their legal guardians regarding disease processes and medication management.">
  • Triage patient phone calls and consult with Providers as necessary.">
  • Refill medications (under Provider direction) and work with pharmacies and insurance companies to obtain Prior Authorizations when required.">
  • Follow established protocols for ordering required labs.">
  • Document information in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).">
  • Obtain specimens, schedule tests and diagnostic procedures, complete referrals, and report any changes in patient status to Providers.">
  • Maintain a team-centered approach to patient care by working collaboratively with nursing staff, Case Managers, and Support Staff to address patient needs.">
  • Maintain effective relationships with Providers by communicating patient needs and responding efficiently to requests for follow-up care.">
  • Contribute to Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) projects under the direction of Administrative RN II, ensuring compliance with HRSA funding requirements.">
  • Participate in special projects and perform other related duties as assigned.">

Requirements

  • Eligibility for licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.">
  • Current AHA BLS/CPR certification and other required unit-specific certifications.">
  • Effective communication skills that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, family members, and healthcare providers.">
  • Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) through on-the-job training.">
  • Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills, and work history.">
  • Prior experience working with diverse populations is preferred.">

The University of Illinois offers a competitive salary range of $30.19-$40.00 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The location of this position is on the Peoria campus, 170 miles southwest of Chicago.
