OBJECTIVE:
The Clinical Nutrition Specialist is a pivotal role for individuals in training with less than one year of clinical exposure. Under the mentorship of a seasoned renal dietitian, this position aims to deliver nutritional care to both in-center and home patients, acquiring the necessary experience mandated by CMS until the completion of the required clinical duration to qualify as a dietitian.
This role actively engages in initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes, aligning with individualized goals set forth by the healthcare team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Foster a culture of excellence through adherence to company values and exceptional customer service.

• Ensure superior service delivery to all stakeholders, both internal and external.

• Cultivate and sustain effective communication channels to build strong relationships.

• Proactively address and resolve customer service inquiries promptly.

• Calculate dietary prescriptions in accordance with established standards.

• Assess patients' understanding of dietary needs related to kidney health.

• Complete Nutrition History documentation for use by qualified dietitians in patient assessments.

• Provide tailored nutritional education to patients, families, and caregivers, focusing on nutritional status and relevant lab results while considering individual learning preferences.

• Analyze nutrition-related laboratory data, counsel patients and caregivers, and collaborate with the healthcare team to implement effective nutritional strategies.

• Monitor and review patients' albumin levels and body weight regularly, identifying those at risk for malnutrition and working with the interdisciplinary team to devise appropriate interventions.

• When necessary, recommend patients for nutritional supplements in accordance with disease management protocols.

• Assist in managing patients' fluid and volume needs, providing education on fluid and sodium intake as appropriate.

• Collaborate with the healthcare team on managing mineral metabolism, renal bone health, anemia, and overall nutritional status.

• Participate in Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement initiatives alongside a qualified dietitian.

• Attend relevant staff meetings and contribute to a safe and clean working environment.

• Engage in pharmacy-related responsibilities, including setup and management.

• Educate patients on emergency preparedness related to nutrition.

• Conduct staff training sessions as needed.

• Uphold FMCNA policies and maintain professional development through continued education and skill enhancement.

• Perform additional nutrition service duties as assigned, escalating issues to supervisors when necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• The work environment is typical of a healthcare facility, with controlled air temperature and moderate noise levels. Exposure to infectious materials may occur.

• Daily tasks involve desk work, computer usage, and interaction with patients and healthcare professionals.

• Travel between various facilities and community locations may be required for training and meetings.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• A Bachelor's degree in Nutrition or a closely related field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.

• Registration as a Dietitian through the Commission on Dietetic Registration is mandatory.

• Current state licensure is required where applicable.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

• Candidates should possess less than one year of clinical experience.
